For Kids
You Are Not Alone
Sometimes a parent may have health problems that affect feelings, thoughts, or behavior. That can feel confusing or scary.
You did not cause it.
You deserve to feel safe.
You can tell a safe adult.
It is okay to have feelings
You might feel confused, worried, embarrassed, angry, sad, or protective of your parent. All of those feelings are normal. Talking to a safe adult can help.
Who safe adults might be
A safe adult is someone who listens, cares about you, and wants to help keep you safe.
What to do
Safety Steps for Kids
Trust your feelings
If something feels scary, confusing, or not right, notice that feeling.
I can say "NO!"
"No." "Stop." "I don't like that." I can say it loud and clear.
Go to a safe place
If you can, go where other people are around.
Tell a safe adult
Talk to someone who listens and wants to help.
Keep telling
If the first adult cannot help, tell another safe adult.
Remember this
You did not cause the problem, and you deserve to feel safe.
